Denver Botanic Gardens is proud to present its Summer Concert Series, featuring Guster on July 15, Steep Canyon Rangers and Trout Steak Revival on July 27, and Martin Sexton on August 1 at York Street. Chris Issak performs on August 4 at Chatfield Farms in Littleton. The concerts offer an unrivaled ambiance of thousands of blooming plants and crystal clear music from some of the world’s most sought after artists. The UMS Announces Round 2 of the 2016 Lineup

The Denver Post Underground Music Showcase is this region’s premier independent music festival. Taking place from Thursday, July 28 – Sunday, July 31, on multiple stages in Denver’s Historic Baker Neighborhood, The UMS will present over 400 performances of local, regional and national talent.

Pen & Podium 2016/17 Authors Announced

On Monday, May 2, the sold out crowd at T.C. Boyle’s Pen & Podium lecture, cheered loudly as they heard for the first time, who the featured authors would be for the 2016/17 season. John Irving kicks off the exciting lineup on Monday, September 28, followed by Lauren Groff on Monday, November 14, Anthony Doerr on Monday, February 6, Mary Karr on Monday, March 13, and Julia Alvarez on Monday, May 8. Pedal The Plains Route Announced!

The Denver Post Pedal The Plains Visits Southeastern Colorado in 2016
On Wed., April 27, 2016, in the West Foyer of the State Capitol, Governor John Hickenlooper and The Denver Post Community Foundation announced the 2016 route for Pedal The Plains. Now in its 5th year, an estimated 1,000 riders will spin through southeast Colorado covering 151 miles over the course of 3 days. From September 16 to 18, participants will visit the host communities of Ordway, Fowler, and LaJunta, while touring a number of scenic, historical and agricultural stops along the way.
“The bar is high for our fifth Pedal The Plains,” said Governor Hickenlooper. “Every year this event gets better and we’re looking forward to celebrating our frontier heritage, exploring our Eastern Plains communities and raising funds to benefit tomorrow’s agricultural leaders.”
Billed as “a ride for the rest of us,” Pedal The Plains is set in the heart of western agriculture, and includes a Century Ride and a Family Fun Ride. Proceeds from the ride benefit The Denver Post Community Foundation in support of the Colorado FFA Foundation and Colorado 4-H. In addition, Pedal The Plains will award a separate grant to each of the three host communities for an organization or community initiative of their choice.

Lottery Registration Opens for The Denver Post Cheyenne Frontier Days Train on Sunday, May 8, 2016
Mark your calendar for Sunday, May 8 to enter the lottery for the Cheyenne Frontier Days Train trip to the world famous “Daddy of ’em All” rodeo! This western tradition takes place on Saturday, July 23, 2016.
This is such a popular, unique experience that an online lottery determines the guests each year. The lottery registration is open Sunday, May 8 through Wednesday, May 18 for the 2016 trip. Lottery winners will be notified of their selection by June 1, 2016. All details and requirements can be found on the Cheyenne Frontier Days Train website.
The memorable day includes breakfast and dinner on the train, a parade in Cheyenne, a catered BBQ lunch, and tickets to the world famous Daddy of ’em All rodeo. The Denver Post Cheyenne Frontier Days Train is presented by MDC Richmond American Homes Foundation. Proceeds benefit The Denver Post Community Foundation.

The Denver Post Pen & Podium Welcomes Bill Bryson

World renowned author, Bill Bryson was the featured guest at The Denver Post Pen & Podium literary series on March 7, 2016 at the beautiful Newman Center for the Performing Arts. After a sold-out VIP reception and taping of this exclusive Backstage@PP interview, Mr. Bryson had our Pen & Podium subscribers laughing all evening by sharing stories of his life and reading excerpts from his famous books which include A Walk in The Woods and A Short History of Nearly Everything. He graciously signed books and continued to share stories following his lecture.

At each Pen & Podium lecture a Colorado nonprofit organization is recognized with a $5,000 grant from The Denver Post Community Foundation. This event featured Reach Out and Read Colorado for their work in promoting literacy by partnering with health care providers and providing age-appropriate books to children at well-child visits from 6 months to 5 years of age. Reach Out and Read Colorado prepares children for school and encourages a lifelong love of reading.

Sylvie Lamontagne Wins The Colorado State Spelling Bee!

On Saturday, March 12, more than 280 of the state’s top spellers came to The University of Denver’s Sturm Hall to compete for The Denver Post Colorado State Spelling Bee championship and for an all expense paid trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May.
Sylvie Lamontagne, an eighth-grader from Creighton Middle School in Lakewood, Colorado spelled “ossifrage” correctly for the win after 22 intense rounds. Sylvie will represent Colorado for the 2nd year in a row in the national competition near Washington D.C. Finals will be broadcast on Thursday, May 26 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. on ESPN2 and from 8 p.m. – 10 p.m. on ESPN. For more information on the Scripps National Spelling Bee, click here.
