The 2025 Denver Post Colorado State Spelling Bee

We are looking forward to the 2025 Denver Post Colorado State Spelling Bee. The online portion of the Bee will take place on Thursday, February 20th. The top scorers will advance to the oral rounds on Saturday, March 8th at Sturm Hall on the University of Denver campus.

2024 

Congratulations to Aditi Muthukumar, the 2024 Denver Post Colorado State Bee champion and a top 10 finalist in the Scripps National Spelling Bee competition! Aditi was a 2-time champion and represented Colorado extremely well on the national stage.

On March 9, 2024 – It was a great afternoon of spectacular spelling from the 14 finalists from across Colorado. They went round after round until we had our 3rd place winner, Aadhya Muthukumar, a 5th grader also from Hulstrom Options, and our 2nd place winner, Rebecca Jerison, a 6th grader from Challenge To Excellence in Parker.

More than 270 top spellers from across Colorado started the 2024 competition off with a competitive online spelling and vocabulary test on March 4th. The highest scorers advanced to the oral rounds that were hosted at Sturm Hall on the University of Denver’s campus. Please join us in congratulating all of the participants.

Each year more than 250 top spellers from across Colorado participate in the virtual portion of the Colorado State Spelling Bee to earn a spot on the stage for the Oral Finals of the Bee. These Oral Rounds take place in March at the University of Denver – where the top scorers compete for the title of Colorado State Spelling Bee Champion. This 85 year-old tradition, originally sponsored by the Rocky Mountain News, encourages and rewards our young people’s love of learning and competition. The winner of the Colorado State Spelling Bee moves on to represent Colorado in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
